Museums in Popular Videogames

The “Museums in Popular Videogames” project was initiated at the Museology Lab of the Ionian University, Corfu, Greece.

It explores how museums appear and function in popular videogames (1982–2022), highlighting their role as spaces of cultural heritage within virtual worlds. The project explains the importance of museums in gameplay and their contribution to player success. The talk also introduces a classification of institutions as per their role as well as real, realistic, or entirely fictional.
